Someone has clearly let a 'designer' loose on a nicely-placed lakeside hostelry. The outside looks a bit ramshackle; the inside is frankly ridiculous. The walls have been clad in rough timber and corrugated iron, decorated with all manner of artefacts from driftwood to oversized fish. A section which passes for a drinking area features timber stumps circled round something resembling half a copper still, suspended over a woodpile. The kitchen area is obscured by half a speedboat. And don't even ask about the gents toilet! Only the outside, where decking overlooks the lake, approaches normality. It pushes the boundary of pub and restaurant, with 'wait to be seated' signs and table service only, but does still accept drinkers. And actually, if you ignore the worst excesses, it is not an unpleasant place for a pint of the McMullens ales served. The food incidentally is very good if pricey.

Closed for refurbishment last week. For those on foot, there is a little set of steps down the bank on the right after the second roundabout. Not the nicest walk!
