The interior here was top notch and the hotel does have a lot of history to it, as it was originally a coaching house and dates from the 1700's. The first thing that hit us in the main bar was the smell of people eating fish, then again it was a Friday. This is a Young's establishment, so I went for a Young's Special. The barmaid who can only be described as miserable, charged us £4.80 a pint. I thought this was a mistake and I asked for a price check. She called over an equally unfriendly and miserable Manageress, who confirmed the price was correct. A bloke who we were chatting to at a nearby table close to the bar commented on the staff, and said he was half expecting Herman Munster to walk out of the kitchen, after looking at those two, plus it was Halloween.

A large hotel with some good drinking areas, better than I was expecting, the usual Youngs beers were on but a very good guest pint of Wimbledon Copper Leaf was had. Worth a look.

Situated opposite the lovely ponds and a bridge, this whitewashed weatherboarded building looks the business; however inside it has been done-over by the Youngs wrecking crew and is now, despite retaining parts of a large multi-room layout, a fairly bland upmarket refit joint. Farrow & Ball/Kirsty & Phil colourings and tiled floor, though the TV showing rugby was perhaps unexpected. Three pumps on the go with Youngs Bitter, Special and Wimbledon Tower available - the latter of which was in good shape though expensive. Noted that local faces get preference at the bar, which was faintly irksome. If you’re crawling Carshalton it’s worth a look for a swift half.
