This pub used to be the Railway Commercial Hotel before becoming the Linden Tree in the late 1980s, and then the Station in 2014 before reverting to the Linden Tree around three years ago. There’s an “award winning” beer garden out the back that is well-tended and surprisingly large for a town centre pub. Inside, off centre to the left, is a serving counter that runs across the rear wall where it faces the entrance and some raised seating where the only other customers were sat, a group of middle aged men talking football. More seating is found up the left-hand side of the pub and also to the right front where a ramp rises to a conservatory and access to the garden. Premium keg was available and the three hand pumps were drawing GK IPA and Abbot Ale alongside Belhaven’s Haunted Highlander, my visit being not long before Halloween. I thought the service was polite, but the pub is bland and the background music added nothing. That said, I’m sure that the garden gets packed on a nice sunny afternoon.

The Linden Tree is the first pub you come across if arriving in Bury St Edmunds by train.
I was well ready for a drink after my long train journey from Nottingham,so it was nice to see the Linden Tree open nice and early.
Once inside i went in the lounge which was smartish with comfortable seating, the pub was empty on my early Saturday morning visit.
The pub was a Greene King tied house on my visit and the start of a Greene King pub crawl, there were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of GK IPA which went down very quickly,it was also a decent drink, the other beer was GK Abbot.
This was a decent pub to start my crawl from.
