Strongers . left this review about The Greengage

The Greengage is a large Greene King Hungry Horse pub that was busy during a recent late midweek afternoon visit. To the right of the central entrance is what appears to be a large extension that is used as a dining room, expect young families and old couples. Ahead of the entrance is a long L-shaped serving counter that faces seating across the front windows and a large area to the left with more seating, as well as a couple of pool tables and dartboards. Supported are Fosters and a premium keg range alongside four hand pumps, three of which were in use drawing IPA, Abbot Ale and Old Speckled Hen. There was a bit of a wait for service because the friendly lone barmaid was doing food and drink service by herself. A vocal local decided to kick off and started ranting, but at the absent management rather than the barmaid. I decided to retreat from the bar to a table where I was surrounded by many televisions that were airing muted Sky Sports News while some loud background music played. I don’t mind a Hungry Horse for some quick and relatively inexpensive scran to line the stomach, but this place is too far from the town centre to warrant a revisit.

Alan Winfield left this review about The Greengage

The Greengage is a fairly large pub that is situated well away from the middle of Bury St Edmunds town centre in a residential area.
Once inside this was a quite a smart pub with a dining area to the right and a drinking area to the front left, the pub was carpeted throughout and had a mix of seating types.
The pub is a Greene King tied house, which is no surprise in this town, there were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Gk IPA which was a decent drink, the other beer was GK Abbot.
This was a decent comfortable pub to have a drink in.
The pub is now branded as an Hungry Horse pub.
