Nice canal side pub a short walk from town. Hobgoblin Gold and Doom Bar on offer. We went for the Hobgoblin which was decent. Friendly service. We enjoyed a game of darts. Worth popping in!

We walked along the canal from the Boat Inn to get here. It was a bit of a hike and along the way, I asked a local was the pub far. His reaction was if you're going to the Cross Keys don't drink the cask, buy bottles, which didn't provide us with a good mindset. The interior in here was of decent size, but the place just looked tired and slightly drab. Beerwise Hobgoblin Gold and Rockin Rudolph, I went for the Hobgoblin, which I haven't tried for a good while and it was ok.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Cross Keys
Canal-side pub on the southern outskirts of the town but which once must have been well out in the country. Almost totally anonymous from the road (to the point where you question whether it's still open), but perfectly obvious from the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal. The front bar is pleasingly traditional, as is the longer perpendicular bar and small rear seating area down a few steps at the back. Also has a terrace overlooking the waterway. Just Doom Bar and Hobgoblin Gold available from the various handpumps on the two counters, but cask Banks's Original also dispensed from a now rare electric pump (£3.00, but unfortunately served too cold).
