A fantastic looking detached Victorian pub and eatery in undressed brick and some white render, with conservatory dining area, beer garden and a patio area. Formerly named The Railway, though the railway never in fact got to Eccleshall and hardly any buses do!
The interior has a bar/lounge entered through the front porched entrance. it is sort of U-shaped around the central brick faced serving bar. It is in dark red and white, with white beamed ceiling and a brick fireplace. Whilst there are stools at the serving bar, other seating comes in the form of sofas and when sitting on them, it is a bit of a stretch to get a drink from a low wood table. The room seems a little bare with just a train picture and mirror, but don't be mistaken, this room is very pleasant. There was a happy family chatting away on the other sofas and the service was fine. The TV wasn't on and the music was general and at a decet level. At the back there is a dining area in white and undressed brick, with arty bistro-style pictures. i didn't eat here and didn't see the menu, but i wish i had in some ways, as i think i would have felt more comfortable.
Beer; tap stuff with Abbot Ale, Bass and a decent Timothy Taylor Landlord.
This is more like a country pub, but on the edge of the town. I really would have liked it had i not felt i had been swallowed by the sofa, but I think it would be really good to eat here and see the best of it - indeed, i intend to come back at some stage - afterwards, i will sit on a bar stool!
