More than a decade since I was here, but this marvellous pub doesn't seem to have changed. It was lively on a Saturday early afternoon, with five beers listed on the blackboard. My half of Bass was good but not brilliant (NBSS 3), but at £3.60/pint I'm not complaining. A thought: if it was the only beer on the bar back would it have been better?

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Blue Mugge
Excellent backstreet local, with a variety of seating areas, side rooms and pool / darts facilities around the island servery (and altogether rather bigger inside than one might expect). All parts very traditional, but seemingly working well for mostly younger customers. Six real ales on offer when I visited, but it's a bit of a guessing game since the handpumps are distributed around the central bar-back rather than being on the various narrow counters. I went for the Burton Bridge anniversary Ruby Red (£3.20) but could happily have gone for several others.

Another excellent pub in the area and well worth a visit. The pub is traditional in every sense and the ales are pulled from the servery, this is why we couldn't see any handpulls on the bar counter. Prices were also good, their two guest ales from the Springhead Brewery, priced at £2.65, even though the Roaring Meg was at 5.5 abv. There was also a good choice of meals and all under £4. I went for a pint of Bass, which was top class. The owner told us his father bought the pub in 1976 and that the pub has always been a good community pub. Note! the pub does close at 3 until 6, even on a Saturday.
