Much like the Dev, feels like this one has had a bit of a light makeover in the intervening six years and I felt a lot more positive this time round. As I was here for National Bass Day notes are sparse as I was otherwise occupied with the chat of other devotees. Said grog was in very exceptional nick as you would rightly expect (NBSS 4.5) and every second punter was on it.

March 2020
A timewarp locals pub that looks 1976 both outside and in. Connoisseurs will find much to admire in the mostly untouched 70s refit, replete with velveteen banquette seating with inbuilt heaters, varnished tongue and groove ceiling, striped curtains and old skool ales from Theakston, Greene King, Bass, Marston and what I assumed to be a recreation of Ind Coop Burton ale which whilst in good nick (NBSS 3.5) was a ghastly buttery thing not fit to lick the originals boots. Friendly landlady. Plenty of good pubs in Burton, this one doesn’t demand top billing but it's good crawl fodder. Rated 6.5

Strongers . left this review about The Roebuck Inn

The Roebuck is a long and thin pub that was rammed with all the tables in the front, up the right opposite the serving counter and at the rear by the dartboard being used. I think someone was setting up for a quiz at the rear which explained all the bits of paper on the tables. The counter supports standard and premium keg and six of the eight hand pumps were in operation drawing Old Peculiar, Bass, Burton’s Reservoir, Fuller’s ESB, GK Abbot and Pedigree. The service was polite and the Bass was good so I see no reason not to return to this popular pub.

I'd walked from the station into town past this pub when I first arrived. Whilst it is the first pub along the road to open each day, I was still slightly too early for 2pm opening initially. Returning later in the afternoon, I found a fairly traditional single room pub with bare floorboards and quite a few customers (all male).

For a 2024 Good Beer Guide pub, I was slightly disappointed with the beer range. Bass, Theakston Old Peculier & Marston's Pedigree are the regular ales. Guests were Timothy Taylor Landlord & Brain's The Rev James. However, the boxed cider range made up for it, with a choice of Weston's Old Rosie & Lilley's Mango Cider, Rhubarb Cider, Strawberry Cider & Cherries & Berries.

A decent, traditional pub. But there are better further along the road.
