This very impressive Sam Smiths pub is partly hidden behind an overgrown hedge, and it took me a while to find the correct entrance. There are three interconnecting rooms, a lounge, public and function room. The main room has a high, vaulted ceiling and a full size snooker table, as well as pool and three dart boards. There's the usual Sam's line up, but with no real ale. The dark mild box was present and lit up but no beer was on, so I went for the keg Old Brewery, which was priced at £3 a pint.
It makes a pleasant change to find a pub with a "no dogs" policy, and children are only allowed until 7pm. It almost seems worthwhile having to manage without your mobile phone.

OK I’ll admit that this was visited with a bit of trepidation, as it’s situated in a very down-at-heel area and I just wanted to tick it off for the name. It’s a Sam Smiths pub and has a quite unusual interior layout. To the right is a massive open room with arched ceiling, the centre of which is dominated by full sized snooker table (with a pool table also) along with with three dart boards on a raised area off right. Sets of aged tables and chairs arranged around the outside perimeter, with a large bay window area at front populated by a lot of old men shouting in Northern at each other but friendly enough. Through a door and turn right to a large lounge room, dated but comfy. The 60s bar area serves both rooms with a full keg range, but no cask OBB. Two halves of mild clocked in at an astonishingly low £1.34, served up by a very friendly barmaid. It was Desmond's round and he was grinning like a cat that had well and truly got the cream. Whilst no-one talked to us, we were quite the centre of attention – I doubt there's anyone who drinks here who isn’t a weekly regular. Whilst I’m hardly going to recommend a jaunt to sample it, I sincerely hope it survives and thrives.
