I could just leave a review stating "Real Ale unavailable", which should provide an update to this place. However, I'll try to add a bit more meat to the bones.
The Station is located just along the road from a railway line, as you would guess. Presumably there was a station here at some time or another. But now, the nearest transport hub is Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
I was drawn here by the pub's entry in the Good Beer Guide. With plenty of cars in the car park, I was expecting a fairly busy pub. The music blasting out suggested that there would be a good partying crowd inside. Alas, I was the first customer of the day on my Thursday lunchtime visit.
A couple of forlorn handpulls sat unused on the bar, leaving a choice of Coors, Stella Artois, Guinness, Heineken, Peroni, John Smith's, Meantime Anytime IPA, Grolsch & Cornish Orchards cider.
The interior has been modernised and with the extremely loud dance music with a few profanities thrown in for good measure, this wasn't a place I wanted to linger in. The outdoor yard looked a bit more peaceful and quite enticing given the noise inside. To her credit, the young barmaid did turn the noise down a little once the landlady had disappeared. If it was indeed the landlady's preference for loud music, I doubt this place will last for long, unless the local youth (the only market I can see that could possibly enjoy this kind of environment) can provide sufficient trade.
A really disappointing start to my day in South Yorkshire. At least my day could only get better!
A 2/10 is the best I can award this place. Ironically, when I was last in Blaxton in 2011, I gave the village's other pub the Bluebell a 2/10 on another site. That pub is currently closed. I'm so glad I don't live in Blaxton.
