Canalside pub in an old warehouse building. It is part of the Brunning & Price chain.

The interior is one large room with an L-shaped bar and room and several pillars breaking up the space, albeit making access to the bar a little tricky when busy. The pub opens early each day with alcohol being served from 11am. There is a limited amount of outdoor seating on the towpath.

There are 4 regular cask ales - Facer's Plum Porter, Weetwood Eastgate & Cheshire Cat & Phoenix Boss Man's Brew. Guest beers for our visit were Fuller's London Pride, Castle Rock Harvest Pale & Just Like Heaven & Big Hand Wombat. The cider was Gwynt y Ddraig Dog Dancer.

The weekend was my first visit here in 16 years. Little has changed, leaving this as a fairly reliable option for a good beer in comfortable surroundings when in Chester.

The canal side Old Harkers Arms is an L-shaped pub with a central L-shaped serving counter across the rear. There’s seating across the front windows and up the left to a small dining room in the left rear. Premium keg was available alongside six hand pumps that were drawing Ossett’s Excelsius, Brimstone Brewery’s Sandpiper, Oaks Brewery’s East Coast Pale, Weetwood’s Eastgate and Cheshire Cat as well as Titanic’s Plum Porter. There are also some Lilleys cider options, but I went for a pint of Sandpiper which was OK, but expensive at £5 for a 3.6%. The service was friendly, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to revisit.

I was told this place was a must visit in Chester but I found to be middle class canalside gastro crap that bored me enormously. Ale was very good though I couldn’t get to the bar to see most of the pumps due to meal/nibble/cocktail orders taking up most of the space. It’s probably alright in an afternoon. unfortunately the outside area only consists of six tables outside the pub.
