I couldn't work out whether Smugglers was open or not when we first passed by just after 3pm on a weekday visit. Returning after 4pm, it was definitely open. Although I think we were the first customers.
Being subterranean, it feels a little dark and dingy inside, albeit there is a cosy feel to the place. Some kind of sports channel (probably Sky Sports News) was showing on at least 1 TV. There was also a pool table.
At the bar, the solitary real ale is Wychwood Hobgoblin Gold. Although one of the other handpulls was clipped with Lilley's Mango Cider, which I chose. One of our party is partial to a sour beer. The young barmaid did offer him a Sourz shot instead, seemingly oblivious to what he was talking about!
A few other customers did pop in during our visit and they seemed quite friendly. The Hobgoblin was passable by all accounts but there are a few better pubs in Cleethorpes than this one.

Basement bar in a seafront block which sadly is past its best. The landlady filled us in on the sad demise of its ale offerings, from once selling six including a mild down to just the one regular in the shape of Hobgoblin Gold, explaining that most of its clientele drink lager. Even the Gold was past its best, so I don't hold out much hope for its survival. A great shame.

Visited November 2017. Four pumps at the bar, two of which were on, offering Hobgoblin Gold and Jennings Cumberland. The Hobgoblin Gold was £1.70 for a half.
Quite a traditional feel to the pub inside if slightly worn and dated but perhaps part of the charm if you like pubs to be pubs. Big TVs everywhere. The young chap behind the bar asked if I wanted anything else on the TV, which I thought was very kind of him.
Not a place I would particularly feel the need to rush back to, but I'm glad to have tried it.
