A hamstone 16th Century coaching inn on the old main road, now a popular and friendly village pub, still owned by Palmers. There is a car park at the back, easy to miss if you're travelling above the 20mph speed limit in force here. Inside, the bars are basic but comfortable, a carpeted dining area at one end, the remainder slate floored. There are plenty of original architectural features on view, including beams, inglenooks and non-structural timbers, but they're just there doing their job, not being ostentatious. There is a skittle alley used for functions as well as regular skittles matches. The landlord was very friendly, especially to the dogs whom he treated to a snack each. The beer was all from Palmers, and it was in very good condition, especially the Copper which merited extra indulgence. Best and Dorset Gold were also on draft alongside two ciders, Orchard Haze and First Press. Food is freshly cooked from local ingredients. The locals and other drinkers were friendly too, a good atmosphere prevailed. Well worth a visit.

A Palmers' house with almost the complete range on offer - Dorset Gold, 200, Best Bitter and Copper Ale (only Tally Ho missing). Certainly less pretentious than the Castle up the road, but primarily a local's watering hole. Just below average.
