I thought I may have been a little ungenerous with my review yesterday so I made a special effort today and made a quick visit this afternoon. Firstly - and loads of Brownie points - it is open all day. Secondly, there were no regulars in, knuckle-draggers or otherwise - I was the only customer. I received a warm welcome from the landlady and I plumped for a pint of Theakston's XB (£3.10), which was very good. In fact I had little option as the other two pumps weren't being used. The pub, split into three main bar areas, is quite light, airy and pleasant these days with wooden furniture throughout - see attached photos. As I sat in the main central bar area I couldn't help notice the large TV screen - playing sport? no, Jeremy Kyle! (not really a surprise there then!). The menu, chalked above the bar, looked extensive and quite reasonably priced. Then I began reading it in detail and noticed that 10 dishes offered came with chips while the remaining four came with mash. None of your haute cuisine stuff here then! All in all a great improvement since my last visit a couple of years ago. Unfortunately it still needs a bit of work - another ale or two and a much more adventurous menu for a start. Just below average, but let's hope it picks up.

Apparently new owners have spruced the place up and are trying to make a go of it. However rumour has it that the same knuckle-dragging regulars are still there. I think I'll wait several more years before I visit again so won't rate it at present - just issue a potential health warning!
