Appears to have been a change of thinking here since the last review by E TA there is an ale on called ruby on my visit made by someone or other yet the barmaid had to enquire about the option to just serve me a drink.
I was allowed a drink I think based on the fact a table for one was available, sad loser that I am, adjacent to a wood worm infested banister to the cellar and it wasn't Valentine's Day.
Undecided whether it needs to be shut as a pub, I'll leave that to the next person who walks through the door, potentially not on a Friday night and not at £4.90 for Carlsberg Export.

Now touting itself as ‘a restaurant with rooms’, this former inn and wine bar is a little pretentious given its location, a side road off Yeovil High Street. There are guest rooms above, while the two downstairs rooms are crowded dining rooms. There is some architectural merit as the building dates from the 16th Century, and the original cellar is worth a look. The dining rooms have been well restored and have retained many of the original features. The bar counter has no handpumps, and there is no real ale or cider on offer, just a couple of bottled beers and two megakeg pumps. The catering facilities are stretched when small groups arrive, meaning very long waiting times for food, while coming in just for a drink wasn’t encouraged by the staff. The B&B accommodation is described as ‘eclectic’, but that’s just a euphemism for ‘chaotic’. Not worth including on a crawl, but probably fine if you want an overpriced lunch and have plenty of time on your hands.
