A recently renovated market pub, formerly a coaching inn, with a main L-shaped bar and a smaller public bar and games room to one side. There is a small car park at the back, but it was impossible to get a car in as some moron had blocked it by parking a builder's van in the entrance. The bar is part-tiled, part carpeted, and the one remaining original feature is an inglenook fireplace. The games room has a dartboard and pool table, but there was no-one using either despite the pub's being busy. It was noisy due to the lack of control exercised over noisy children. The landlady was far from welcoming, a pity as this could be a really good pub given its location and history. Four handpumps on the bar, 2 dry, one serving Butcombe's Bitter and one GK IPA. Not somewhere I'd currently make an effort to revisit.

Quite a comfortable pub for a small town - at least it's clean and offers a warm welcome. Ales are nothing special and the menu is just ordinary pub grub. Average.

Beers on were Butcombe, Dartmoor and Tribute, with not a great deal of quality. Pretty basic boozer in Somerton, was one of the busier pubs in these dark cold depths of January. The menu looks OK if a bit uninspiring, if you like puddings you got a freee one with each main course. Average.
