A large town pub in a rather grim-looking stone building in its own grounds on a busy crossroads on the main road into town. It’s currently operated by Butcombe Brewery. There is a car park and a large but rather plain garden. Inside, the front rooms have been opened out to form 4 distinct but open-plan bar areas, all carpeted, a pool table at one end. It’s lively, has a good local following and the young bar staff are welcoming. Ales on were Butcombe Original and rare Breed, both in superb condition. There was no food on offer, but that didn’t detract from the experience. Worth a visit and including in a crawl.
