A large, modern roadside pub, functional but not pretty. It also has a small local following. There is a large car park and plenty of outdoor seating, though the road noise makes it less comfortable than it could be. Inside, there is a single large bar, irregular in shape, quite light and airy with an almost Scandinavian feel to it. There is a free-standing woodburner at one end, while the décor theme is blue, which wouldn’t be so bad if the outside didn’t look so weary. The young barman was pleasant and helpful. Two ales on, Tribute and Doombar, neither particularly exciting. There is a separate carvery section, though this didn’t seem to be operating when we visited. OK as a pitstop, particularly if you’re travelling with a family down the A38, but not somewhere to spend an evening drinking.
