Reopened in April 2019 after a refurbishment, this 16th Century ale house seems a bit out of place with its neighbouring buildings, but that just adds to the character. There is a small room on the right of the door as you enter, then the main U-shaped bar, somewhat larger as it is formed from 2 earlier rooms, is to the left. There is a small outside area at the back, mainly used by smokers. The floors are tiled, and there is an impressive hamstone inglenook with a woodburner in the bar, and the bar counter is made from modern brick, which makes it a bit incongruous. Despite its history, the pub remains a decent high street local, not spoiled by the tourist trade. Ales on were Doombar, Butcombe Original and Bass, not in the best condition, sadly, but still drinkable. There was also a boxed cider behind the bar. Food looked like reasonable value, but as we didn’t eat I can’t comment on the quality. Worth a visit and I’d include on a town crawl.

Unassuming pub both on the outside and inside and all the better for it. Walk in through double doors and the main serving area is to your left, with a U-shaped central bar with kitchen servery at the back. Quite popular with eaters and drinkers alike. 4 Handpulls with Courage Best, Doom Bar, Yeovil Glory and Posh IPA. Glory is a guest but the Posh is a permanent fixture - long may that continue. Also had Stowford for you cider heads. If you are new to Crewkerne or just passing this is as good a pub as any to while away the hours.
