Recently reopened after an extensive refurbishment, although the basic layout is unchanged, it is pretty much unrecognisable from it’s previous incarnation. It was though very quiet on our recent Thursday evening visit, with only two or three other punters in there, so I hope the investment pays off.
Internally it’s all one single, open plan room with the bar counter against the rear wall and has a reasonably contemporary feel to it without being too modern. The flooring is predominantly pale wood strip with some black and white tiling around the bar counter, whilst the paintwork is predominantly white on the top half of the walls and a mustard yellow on the lower half, with others areas being a contrasting deep green. Padded bench seating, also in green, was fitted around much of the perimeter, with padded chairs and stools elsewhere. A fireplace with green glazed tiling was off to one side, with a smaller fireplace and wood burning stove at the rear. They have retained the darts board in a small alcove, and there was also a rolled up projector screen, so presumably major sporting fixtures are shown. A few pot plants were in the window sill, as well as a few others dotted around the pub.
Beers on tap were Bass and Cheddar’s Bitter Bully, with a third pump appearing unused. Ciders meanwhile were Broadoak’s Pheasant Plucker, along with Dry and Gold from Thatcher’s. Unfortunately prices have increased considerably since my last visit, with a couple of pints coming in at £9.60, making it exactly triple the price it was previously.

The Crown Tavern has now reopened.
Unfortunately a lot more expensive than before, but considering a six-figure refurbishment, it had to happen.

Probably the last review from me as the Landlord and Landlady have announced the pub will close for the last time on Sunday 30th April 2023.
At this point, Bass has increased to £2.50.
