A traditional frontage,up some steps into an opened out interior but still retaining a front snug to the right. There has been a modern refurb with brown leather banquettes and some heavy square tables,a dark wood floor and a bar tucked away on the right side with more seating to the opposite side. There is a terrestrial flatscreen above a fireplace near the bar ,where there are bar stools for the regulars.
There is an upstairs function room unvisited by me.This is a community local with themed food nights, occasional karaoke and live music,a regular quiz and the welcome was friendly from both the barmaid and the regulars.
The handpumps were offering Bass and Osset Silver King (good nick,NBSS 3.5) and this was a pleasant stop on a brief but hilly crawl around Kidsgrove.

The Plough Inn is just down the hill from the Crown and Thistle.
Once inside there is a single L Shaped room which was bare boarded, the bar is to the rear left, there was some comfy bench seating to the left, plus a couple of small tables and stools in the middle of the room.
There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Oakham Bishops Farewell which was a very nice drink, the other beer was Bombardier.
This pub has been done up within and inch of its life,is seemed to strerile and cold for my liking,it was also almost empty while the more traditional pub just up the road was packed.
On a brighter note there was some decent background music playing.
