The Horseshoe feels like a ubiquitous family dining pub that could be a branch of any of the major chains. However, it does appear to be privately owned. I was surprised to see a sign on the bar stating that it was a minimum spend of £5 to use a card. Not something that a large chain would normally stipulate.

This place is quite spacious with several different areas. It is mainly bare boards with a pale green and cream colour scheme. There are a few TVs showing Bargain Hunt with the sound on but unfortunately this was competing with music that was also playing.

The pub is very much food-oriented but despite the availability of Sunday lunches, there were very few people in on our Sunday lunchtime visit. The pub has a quiz night on a Tuesday and a steak night on a Thursday. It seems to be quite community focused with a large car park and a garden with a children's play area adjacent to the building.

Cask ales are Sharp's Doom Bar & Oakham Citra. I'm not sure how much of them they sell though, with one of the two handpulls hidden behind some sort of promotional board. Ciders are Inch's & Old Mout. A wifi code is available at the bar.

Visited in August this year. Five hand pulls for cask ale at the bar, with at the time of my visit two being clipped for Doom Bar, two were off and the remaining offering was Merlin's Gold. The Merlin's gold was a fairly pleasant hoppy light golden ale and was refreshing on a hot day.

Modern in style dining pub but drinkers seem welcome too. Quiet at the time of my visit, a Monday evening just before 6pm, but there were a few locals gathered at a table near the bar and engaging in chit-chat with who I assumed to be the manager. Seating is comfortable. There is a wood burner, but needless to say this was not going in the middle of one of the hottest Augusts in living memory.

Friday night is apparently steak night - choose between rump steak or salmon fillet with all the trimmings and a bottle of wine for a fixed price of £32.95 for two people.

Not a bad place at all but probably not somewhere I would go out of my way to just for a drink, but may well be worth a visit for the food.
