Another Joules pub, almost opposite the Castle but in a different style. This one is less former coaching inn and more high street boozer, though it is also blessed with some very nice front windows (see photo), which I choose to believe are original, but with Joules you never can tell. Inside we found it to be a bit warm, with a rather unnecessary solid fuel stove belting out the heat. On the bar were three hand pumps, with the regular Joules Pale and Blonde supplemented by a pump clip in the style of an experimental brew, headed Batch Brew 1017 and described as Target Golden Ale 4.8%. This is also by Joules, though the word does not appear anywhere on what is quite a wordy pump clip. Four malts are named, and the hops Target, Bramling Cross and Fuggle. I had a half and it was very good (NBSS 3.5) and most enjoyable.
