Located mid-way along a residential street, the Prince of Wales is a solid looking stand-alone pub that sits behind a tarmacked car park. To the left of the entrance is a public bar with a dartboard and high tables along the front windows and up the left-hand wall opposite a serving counter up the right-hand wall towards the rear. The larger carpeted right-hand side has seating across the front wall and up the right opposite the serving counter up the left. Some more tables are found either side of the rear door that allows access to a decked seating area that backs onto a large bowling green. I noted two unused hand pumps, and another that was off, which left cask options of Oakham’s Krush, Stonehouse’s Flipside and Lulow’s Gold. Standard keg and a couple of boxed ciders were also available, but most of the aged customers were having hot drinks while they played and watched what must have been an important bowls match that was in progress. I thought the service was friendly and there was a good atmosphere so it’s worth a look if over this side of the river.

Really vibrant locals pub with a great range of ales, this is a must visit if you’re in Shrewsbury. I nearly skipped it after the Cross Foxes as it’s buried away in the backstreets but changed my mind, good job as this turned out to be one of my favourites of the day.

With a front car park so large that Jeremy Clarkson could do doughnuts in it, this is a bit of a strange pub which is a bit estate boozer meets traditional, but marked out by the enormous bowling green to the rear, on which the Ashes could be played out should Lord's be out of action.
Seemingly a friendly locals' pub, I plumped for a half of the Hobson's Champion Mild which was ok but unexceptional.
This pub is certainly worth seeking out when hanging out in Shrewsbury Town.
