The Dog & Pheasant is a mid-terrace Marstons pub with s serving counter to the left of the entrance where standard keg is available alongside San Miguel and five hand pumps that were drawing Brakspear’s Oxford Gold, Youngs Bitter and Wainwright Gold. With wood flooring throughout, there’s a table in the bar area and a brown banquette runs under the right-hand window adjacent to a burner in a fireplace on the right-hand wall. There’s also a rear bar where the same three cask options were available. There were a couple of people in this rear area playing darts while the likes of Seal played in the background. I thought this was a friendly local’s boozer.

Back street pub buried away in a residential side street, and another one that was remarkably busy on a Saturday evening. Some kind of function going on in the lounge which meant perching on whatever seats we could find. It’s very charming in here with a jovial local atmosphere but I could do without the bluey grey paint splashed everywhere and slightly tacky decor with a few too many of those “seen it a million times” joke signs. Three Marstons beers on and my Sunbeam was fine but I was surprised to find it was comfortably our most expensive round of the weekend.

A friendly back street pub that can be a bit difficult to find. Real ale available and the small bar area is frequented by chatty locals.
