An old fashioned single room local, unchanged from reviews below. If you like your traditional locals pubs and don’t feel like being too experimental with your ale, it’s definitely worth a visit. The Bass is certainly well kept.

Outside the city centre, from which it is easy to get to by a footbridge across the river, this is off the beaten track for tourists. Unless it's beer tourists, of course, because this is a destination pub. Though first and foremost it's a locals pub, and these locals seem to like their beer. There are four hand pumps on the front corner of the bar, with three of them repeated towards the rear (see my photo for the three - I seem to have missed the fourth). I went for the Bass, perhaps influenced by the prominent red triangle on the front of the pub. Definitely worth crossing the river for this one.

The first thing you notice on approach, is the old Bass signage to the side, front façade, hanging sign and brewer's lantern above the door.
Inside, and it's obviously very much a locals' boozer catering for friendly older male customers all crowded around the bar, though perhaps the pub attracts a younger more bisexual customer base later in the evening.
It's a dated pub but in a good way, with some horse brasses on high.
Falling prey to the power of the pub's external advertising, I opted for a half of the AB-InBev Marston's-brewed Draught Bass, having forgotten that this V2.0 is a pale shadow of its former self. But for the bar blockers, I would probably have opted for one of the at least three other superior beers.
This is a pleasant little journey back in time to a style of pub that is now hard to find and I'd have no problem returning.
