Strongers . left this review about The Hop & Friar

The Hop & Friar is a staple-shaped sports pub with a dartboard and televisions throughout that were showing muted women’s football while some background music played during a recent midweek evening visit. The large L-shaped serving counter supports standard keg and four hand pumps, one of which was in use drawing Wainwright. The service was polite and the locals at the bar were friendly, but there are are better options nearby.

Remodelled / refurbished side-street pub that looks more modern inside than the heritage exterior would suggest. Rather nondescript opened-out interior with pool table, etc. As a Marston's house, I found Banks's Amber (£3.65) and Wainwright Gold available from two of the four handpumps.

Largish pub with 4 real ales but nothing strong. Various TVs and a beer garden round the back.
