Need to go back, as thanks to conflicting information on the web, we needed to rush for the infrequent bus. As it turned out, the damn thing hadn't even left Shrewsbury and managed to be either 30 or 40 minutes late, dependent on whether you believe Google Maps or Bustimes.org.
So, we had exactly 8 minutes to consume a pint! Don't say I dont suffer for my hobbies. A squeeze through the tiny front doors for an old school pub, with a fire place at one end and a long bar. Four real ales on and here comes the low rating.
The Shropshire Gold was in poor condition. A real vinegar taste that took me all afternoon to shake off. If I hadn't been time constrained, it would have gone back.
Disappointing from a Good Beer Guide 2025 Pub and one I was looking forward to visiting. My last trip to town was in one of the wierd covid part lockdown periods and this place was closed.

A delightful old building with many interesting features, prime among which would be the large ceiling boss (see photos) which I imagine would have been for hanging a lantern. Although the pub is fairly small, it was quite clearly once divided into even smaller rooms, as shown by the different floors - tiled in red and black to the left, with floorboards to the right. On the bar were five hand pumps, with four beers on at the time of my visit: Greene King Abbot, St Austell Tribute, Salopian Shropshire Gold and Wye Valley HPA. It was fairly quiet at the time of my mid-afternoon visit, but this is a pleasant place to while away a few minutes in silent contemplation - or would have been, if one of the locals had not engaged me in conversation. Maybe another time.
