Formerly a bit of a rough old beast, this has now been taken over by Raymond Blanc's chain and has been reinvented as a gastropub. The layout remains the same and the bar has stayed in situ. The former pool room has lost its tables and become an intimate dining area and the courtyard out back paved over to become a dining area. Sharp's Doom Bar and Atlantic, TT Landlord and local XT 4 on the stumps - £6.30 for a pint of the XT and a pint of Coke.

A semi-modernized rambling multi-roomer with lots of floor to ceiling pillars. Look out for the characterful back snug and conservatory garden access with creeping vines. Mute rugby showing on the TV. Two ales, Adnams Ghost Ship (good nick) and Pride. Hyperactive but friendly barmaid. Not one to put at the top of the crawl list but a decent stop-off for a swift one.
