An upmarket refurbishment of an historic old pub, with lots of exposed stonework, twee decorations and low lighting. The small bar has a comfy area of settees and armchairs around an inglenook fire, with dining areas with farmhouse-style furnishings off to either side. Handpumped ales were Hooky, Shag Weaver and Wye Valley HPA masquerading as a house beer.

Almost painfully posh. No branding on the pumps - just had written signs pointing to three real ales - a house bitter, London Pride and Hooky. Hooky was bang average but it probably was the first pull of the day, being an 11:43am entrant.
Mrs M nearly had a £6 artisan bottled cider but years of hypnosis headed off that particular challenge.
Three goes from the posh bar man to get my change correct. Eventually we settle on a figure that in reflection, left me 50p up on the deal.

Pub with gastro pretensions. Sort of L-shaped interior, with some dining rooms leading off. Wicker baskets hanging from ceiling. Two on, a house ale 'brewed by a national' according to the landlord and Camerons Fridge Ale - which was clearly the first out for the evening session (why do so few pubs not pull a little off first?) but ostensibly fine. Apparently a GII listed building. With the R&C over the road and Three Horseshoes a couple of minutes further away, I can’t imagine I’d be too fussed about doing this one again.
