Strongers . left this review about The Wheatsheaf

The Wheatsheaf is a long and thin 18th century Greene King pub with a small bare boarded front bar area where bench seating sits under both front windows and a stone inglenook with a hooded fire sits on the left-hand wall next to a couple of fruit machines. A short L-shaped serving counter sits adjacent to the entrance in the right rear corner where standard and premium keg was available, but the Abbot Ale on the lone hand pump was off. Towards the rear is a small flagstone floored seating area with an old brick and stone inglenook in which some flowers were on display. The furniture consists of standard tables and chairs as well as some small repurposed cask tables with stools. A dartboard also hangs on the wall. Further towards the rear a couple of steps climb to an area with some seating on a carpet to the left, a couple of tables on a bare board area up the centre and a pool table on flagstones and under a skylight to the right. At the very rear is a stage which wasn’t surprising as this pub has the shabby dimly lit feel of a live music venue. Up the right-hand side of the pub is a cobbled courtyard with some picnic tables mainly for smokers. I thought the service from the barmaid was very friendly, but I didn’t find the pub to be very comfortable and the lack of ale is a bit of a turn-off so I doubt I’ll be returning here any time soon.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Wheatsheaf

Looks like an historic Greene King inn, and in some ways it still is, but much more a music pub nowadays. You entere via a door off the covered alleyway, leading to a two-room layout with traditional furniture and decor, served by a compact bar. Further on, the rear rooms act as a music venue and the place was gearing up for something fairly heavy by the sound (and look) of things. No real ale nowadays unfortunately, and nothing of interest on the bottled front, so went for the keg East Coast IPA (£3.70).
