The Chatsworth is located at the back of a parade of shops in a very residential area off the beaten track so they’re not going to get much passing trade, but it’s a very good and welcoming pub that I expect all the people of Banbury know about and would make a special trip to visit. A long well-kempt patio with seating runs from the car par to the entrance that opens into the bar area where an L-shaped serving counter runs up the centre. In amongst the premium keg are three hand pumps that were drawing Theakston’s Quencher, Adnams Ghost Ship and GK Abbot Ale. Up the left-hand side of the pub is a bright and airy dining area where a couple of groups were eating during a recent midweek early afternoon visit. The food looked good, and it was reasonably priced, so I decided to have a burger that I enjoyed while sat in the right-hand ‘bar’ side of the pub where there’s seating at the front and at the rear is a games area with a dartboard, pool table and a television that was airing muted Sky Sports while some background music played. The service was polite and a couple of the locals said hello as I entered, which was nice. Unfortunately it’s about a 20 minute walk out of town and there are no other pubs down this way which may put people off, but I thought it was worth it.

Modern estate pub, but in a good way... with a tidy bar area, a lounge area to the right, a pool room behind that, a smart restaurant section to the left and plenty of modern patio furniture out front. Live music advertised. Real ales are available too, with Black Sheep (£4.30) and Wainwright available from two of the three handpumps, and a reversed Old Speckled Hen clip on the other. Beavertown Neck Oil also noted on the keg taps. Altogether, with a friendly welcome and a proper community feel, this one must be one of the best of a (usually very undistinguished) type.
