The raven is a small pub in the back streets of Basford only a minutes walk up from the renowned lion. This is a very run down old pub that i cannot imagine ever gets any visitors. Only the regulars ever come here and keep the landlord in business as he is the owner and only member of staff to support. Once inside there is one average sized bar area and another room behind but this was not open on my visit and i cannot see it ever really being opes i doubt it ever gets busy enough. The pub is quite dirty and is very warn and torn with little alterations going on for many years. there are no distinguishable features inside, just very plain old decor with no character aside from some of the windows that have etched glass ravens that i bet were once very nice.
Predictably there were no real ales available and no pumps on the bar, just a very generic keg range. I opted for the mild that seemed overpriced at £2.50, yes you herd right, overpriced! for this type of establishment I was actually expecting less but once it started to pour I instantly regretted it, the squeaky leaking pump that looked like it had not been used in years and the lack of texture in the head seemed bad with the beer being quite a poor drink. I wish i had john smiths, at leas it would have been used a bit more regularly.
The clientele (the few that were in) comprised of lonely old men and construction workers off the near by estate, very foul language was frequent and also came from the landlord. We did get a few stares throughout our drink as without sounding like a cliche everyone really did know everyone in this pub.
A very poor pub all round not helped by the awful toilets which were frankly dreadful. But this pub has been like this for years and still stays open, so if the regulars like it and continue going who am i to complain, there are two outstanding real ale pubs a one minute walk in either direction. I predict this pub will carry on for many years in the same way though would have potential if ever renovated as the area is getting better known for its good pubs, another would not hurt.

The Raven is a smallish stand alone pub that is in an industrial area of basford.
I have only been in this pub a few times and once inside the pub was fairly basic with a couple of rooms,i have only been in the bar which was very basic.
This pub used to be an Home Ales tied house and there were two real ales on the bar the Home bitter was a very nice drink here the other beer was Home mild.
I am not sure what beers are now on here or if the pub is still open.
