The Lord Nelson as mentioned is a traditional old school country type pub in the no so glamorous back streets of Sneinton. It really does seem like it has been lifted from a quite country village does not fit in with what you would usually suspect from the area. AS you enter you come through a lounge/dining area which leads into he main bar. The décor is very old and traditional with low beamed ceilings and warm carpets accompanied by a large open coal fire. The bar room is pretty small and compact, something that is amplified with the low ceilings. Thee small two sided bar fits into the back corner and has three real ales. While it is tied to Greene King they only on pump usually featuring their beer with the rest changing (with Blue Monkey being a regularly featured brewery on one of the pumps. On my visit the options were Moreland Old Hoppy hen (£3.20), Totally Brewed Slap in the face (£3.25) and Blue Monkeys Funky Gibbon but this had just gone as we entered. Not one to usually like Greene King beers I opted for the Hoppy hen as I recalled liking it a lot more than their usually offerings and it was well kept and a ice refreshing beer. My friend had equally good things to say about the totally brewed so you do get a well-kept pint here. The pub seemed well supported by the locals who were all a good spirited bunch and I had a good time enjoying a drink here. If ever in Sneinton it’s in the top two along with the King Billy and worth the effort for a well-kept pint. I wouldn’t like to wonder around these back streets too much at night time but in the summer months I think the beer garden would be a great stop off. Worth a visit.

The Lord Nelson used to be a Kimberley tied house it is now a Greene King pub.
This pub is in the terraced back streets of sneinton but it looks like a country pub with a garden at the front.
Once inside here the pub is unaltered and has got three different rooms off the main room where the bar is,the pub has a very cosy feel to it as the rooms are fairly small.
There were four real ales on the bar but all of these were GK beers i had a drink of Olde Trip this was a decent drink but not as good as when Kimberley were brewing it the other beers were GK IPA, GK Abbot and a GK seasonal called Gangly Ghoul.
I think this pub is well worth a visit to see the inside and also to see a pub like this in an inner city area.
