The former Basement bar turned into the Bunker but on my most recent late Saturday visit it had been rebranded by the same people that own Daskino as The Walrus. The entrance is pretty discreet with only a red illuminatus door sign hanging off the outside wall. The bar is located underground down a steep flight of stairs so is easily missed in the day (not that its open in the day). As you enter the bar is on the far right hand side with another smaller bar on the left down a level in its own small room that had been opened out to make it an extension of the main room. the new phenomenon of beer pong to England has really taken hold in here and was being played my a lot of the younger crowd and there was also some(limited) bench seating with tables near the dancefloor. The clientele were very young and there was a unpretentious atmosphere as most were students/young people of Nottingham out having a good time dancing to cheesy Christmas music and ABBA. I know that doesn’t sound too appealing but compare with some dump bars in the city was not the worst it could have been as everyone in there was jolly and just out for a nice time.

Unlike its sister venue this does not have a large variety of keg taps instead only having Estrella on Draught. I opted for a bottle of 7.2% Flying dog Snake dog which was a pretty decent hoppy IPA and there was also Sierra Nevada. Obviously this is not my usual haunt but I was out for a birthday and couldn’t really refuse. The minimal drinks selection was disappointing but the addition of some passable American Imports at a reasonable (for the type of place/time) price (£4 a bottle) softened the blow a little. Overall a better than average bar for its type but obviously nothing I would ever choose to go into myself. I’ve been in a lot worse and you can at least get a late beer without having to pay to get in.

The City Bar is situated just off the market square and is easily missed as the entrance is a doorway,once inside you go down some steps into this basement bar,there was a decent sized room that was fairly smart and comfortable.
When i first went in this bar it was a Whitbread house and there was a couple of real ales on the bar i had a drink of Flowers bitter and this was a decent enough drink the other beer was Boddingtons bitter.
This bar is still up and running and it is now called Basement bar.
