Public bar in a mid range hotel in a nice Georgian building showing signs of a recent renovation. The bar is located either side of the front door with the counter, part of a semi circular servery, to the left, the rear left area is denoted “snug”. Seating is at banquettes around the walls with wooden rectangular tables and matching chairs. Not much decor apart from a plaster(?) stags head over the large fireplace, there is also a screen, the bar has a fair bit of exposed stone. Further back in the building towards the toilets there’s a mediaeval theme including a suit of armour. The piped music was hits from the 1970s and 80s and rather tinny.
On the counter, which is inlaid with 2p coins, we have five pulls, Landlord, and two locals from Allendale and Twice Brewed, two not clipped, on the keg front a standard keg line up from various multi nationals; Molson Coors, Carlsberg and Heinekin which I guess is unusual, local First & Last also managed a foot in the door. My beer, a bitter referred to as Amber Ale, was served in a wholly inappropriate Guinness glass. Being an hotel bar with a bit limited space there’s no bar stools or indeed standing allowed at the counter, applaud or boo according to your beliefs.
