I'd remembered my missed visit from five years before, and timed my arrival better and got here at 5pm. Though as it was a Sunday it didn't really matter as the pub is open from noon. Anyway, it was good to find it open and fairly busy. It's a traditional whitewashed building, just off the market square. There are low beams and horse brasses, exposed stone walls, foot rails and hooks. There are six hand pumps but three cask beers on at the time of my visit: local Corby Ale and Allendale Golden Plover, plus Hobgoblin. My half of the Corby was fine (NBSS 3).

Arriving in Haltwhistle at 12:30 on Wednesday it was disappointing to find that this pub does not open until 3:30.

The Black Bull is an historic pub close to Hadrian's Wall and is situated down a short cobbled path from the market place. This old pub is popular with locals and ramblers alike and has a low beamed ceiling, open fire, plenty of horse brasses plus a fine selection of 6 cask beers. The pub has a good reputation for fine food which is locally sourced and produced.
Arrived around 11-35 am and although the pub was not officially open the landlord took pity on me and kindly opened the bar from which had an excellent drink of the York Brewery's Ghost Ale.
Definitely worth a visit if in the area
