This hotel is neglected and in real need of refurnishing. The owner wanted permission to level the place to make way for a new building, but when he was refused he has not put any real money into the building and it shows. The bar is ok if you like the dated look "tacky red velvet seating, fixtures from the 70s with wires everywhere" and dirty glasses for your warm beer. To be fair the food is ok and they do a carvery which is acceptable. The worst part of this place is the rooms, old peeling wallpaper, tacky furniture and the rooms stink of stale tobacco. Would not recommend staying over the weekend as the bar is full of the local drunks and you wont get much sleep till after the wee early hours when the place empties. Their idea of a double bed is 2 singles pushed togeather. Overall this place is ok if your stuck for somewhere to stay and the other 2 hotels are full, a real cheapy tacky hotel with a price which does not match.

Enter into the hotel lobby and walk along the central corridor to a lounge bar on your left not forgetting to glance in the restaurant to the right, unchanged since the 70's and the very escence of a two star commercial hotel,it really should be listed and preserved in the national interest. The lounge is similarly old school, red velvet upholstery, upright piano ,some flock wallpaper all a little worn but reminiscent of times gone by.However hats off to the owner,a very friendly chap who is keen to promote local microbreweries.Hooky is always available and the other three handpumps have rotating guests with a golden ale from Hoggleys,Silverstone Pitstop and Frog Island bitter available on our visit.I would suggest coming in here when its busy, there is a quiz night and Sky Sports,as ale quality would improve with throughput although no complaints on what I supped during a quiet lunchtime session.Bar snacks also available, this place deserves to succeed for bravely rejecting the easy option of stocking national brands (blands?) such as GK IPA and Bombardier.
