UPDATE: Back nearly nine years later and its the same. Just the beer is £5.40 a pint now. And this is the earthiest pub in Grassington.
The only place in Grassington that had entertainment (if you exclude eavesdropping). A solo singer entertaining the masses.
Like everywhere, very busy but the staff did well to cope with the numbers. Unusually, Black Sheep Riggwelter was on at £3.40.

Pub where the lounge and bar gradually merge. One large room served by one bar with a pool table at the bar end. It was OK but I didn’t feel instantly comfortable - it would be difficult to put my finger on why, maybe because I tend to seek out lounge rooms to relax in rather than bars and I was neither here nor there where we sat. That shouldn’t put anyone else off paying a visit – I just wasn’t as much of a fan of this place as General Staal was on his visit although I did wonder whether I was going to be charged for the large gammon rather than the smaller one I ordered- it was huge!
On handpull there was Bombardier, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Tetley Bitter, Black Sheep Riggwelter and Black Sheep Best Bitter.

Lovely, traditional village pub. It looks like an 18th Century building and has two distinct areas, although technically its one room. To the right as you walk in is a 'restaurant' area, and to the left is the 'bar' with a pool table and small television. Mrs Staal and I sat in the bar where we ate some extremely tasty and filling meals.
The interior has wooden beams across the ceiling and the bar curves in a 'J' shape across the wall in the bar area. It is fronted in stained wood.
There are football, rugby and cricket team photos on the wall, all from the pub, and some trophies. Various old branded water jugs for whisky are hung from the ceiling beams. I said to Mrs Staal that it struck me as a 70s time capsule, but in a good way.
The staff were all excellent, friendly and attentive. The older couple who I took to be the Landlady and Landlord were very outgoing and eccentric also in a good way which suited the pub. I was served by the Landlord on the Saturday and asked when the Tetley Mild was due in and he said it would be there on Monday. The next visit was Monday, the Landlord was not serving but there was no Mild. The Landlord ran the quiz (which was great fun) a couple of hours later, he clocked I was in and worked a reference to the non-existant Mild into his banter.
Having mentioned the lack of the Mild, the real ales on were, Fair Maiden, Black Sheep Riggwelter, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Tetley Bitter and Black Sheep Bitter. I tried them all and they were all excellent. Riggwelter is one of my favourites, but the Landlord was just too good.
An excellent pub with excellent food and very good staff. Highly recommended!
