This hotel has had a massive refurbishment recently and this is now a very smart bar. Lots of murals, tiling and bare wood makes it a very good looking place. We got chatting to the friendly barmaid who was presiding over the one real ale available which was TT Landlord. She said that they wanted to sell a local beer but didn't know where to start really. I suggested North Riding and Scarborough breweries as they are both brewed in the town. The Landlord was in decent nick, so we spent a pleasant half hour here before moving on. We'll happily callin again next time we're here to see how it's settled in.

Attracted by the 'traditional ales' on the board outside, i stupidly took a small sojourn into this bastion for the purveying of traditional fare. 'Traditional ales' actually means Carling, Fosters, Worthington... blah blah - in other words, tosh. In order not to appear rude in making our escape, we simply asked if they had MILD, to which a reply was made to the effect of 'what's that?'
