As described earlier, this is a solid stonebuit pub by a graceful bridge over the Ure .Dining area to the left,publike space to the right , with flagstones,bench seating and the bar,followed by a further dining room to the rear (not visited by this scribe.)Four handpumps, delivering Theakston's Best and Old Peculiar, Black Sheep Best and Beyond the Wall from Yorkshire Heart,which I found gently pale, if a touch muted.Various keg fonts, a good wine list and the now compulsory plethora of Gins,some dare I say it, artisanal.
On our visit on an early November Saturday lunchtime,the pub rapidly filled with a congregation of shall I say mature drinkers and diners. Friendly barstaff,suitably laconic Guv.
Suitably proud of being Yorkshire's Favourite Pub of 2016, I understand that at the time of writing, it is in the running for a similar accolade.

Quite a deceptive pub, from outside it looks like a typical village pub in a picturesque village, on entering it appears to be a restaurant, then turn towards the bar and it's almost a pub again. It retains just enough pub features and ambience to feel comfortable as a non - diner. Black Sheep Bitter very well kept, Theakstons Best, not tried, Guiness and Fosters. As the pub is food oriented wine aplenty is available. Interesting and varied menu, mains £8 - £17, lunchtime snacks at about £5 -£7. Friendly staff, pleasant decor, overall a reasonable stop on the way into Wensleydale.
===Summer 2010 update====
Now four handpumps with Taylor's Landlord added to the range above, the fourth was unused on my visit. I also notice I didn't mention the formal dining room at the right hand end of the pub when I posted the earlier review. Still a nice freindly pub if a little foody.
