Quite a modern look inside but still feels like a pub. The Black Swan now serves beers from its own microbrewery - Great British Breworks. There were 3 on when I visited - Istanbul pale ale, Coal Porter and Great Scott heavy. I went for the pale ale which was excellent. Worth a visit.

Hotel with lounge bar directly off the street. A dark beamed room with red carpet and upholstery, brass artefacts hanging from the ceiling and a large stone fireplace. Very helpful and friendly service.
On handpull there was Theakston’s Lightfoot, John Smith’s and Black Sheep Best Bitter.

At the end of my fortnights holiday, my daughter suggested we should catch the Steam train from Whitby to Pickering and have lunch in, and a little look around Pickering. We set of yesterday at 11am behind an LMS Black Five engine and arrived in Pickering at 12:40. The women were obviously ready for lunch and we made straight for The Black Swan. I had The venison pie with vegetables, my wife had a ham salad and my daughter had the biggest serving of gammon ever, with eggs and chips. We drank Black Sheep which was excellent. The staff looked after us very well and I thoroughly recommend this place for a visit. On the Steam train back to whitby I managed to buy the last bottle of Black sheep whilst listening to the same engine lift us up out of Levisham towards Goathland Summit. Marvellous day out.
