I thought I had better revisit this place to see what Brew York had done to it. Which basically was gut it, leaving vast expanses of bare wood floors with fairly sparse furnishings so a more modern feel. The bar counter along the back has two sections, with cask ales to one side and the keg taps to the other. There are 4 each of their own cask, craft and keg (the latter being two lagers, cider and stout). There was one silent screen down the end showing sport, which no-one was looking at, while outside are a row of pavement tables overlooking the station. Worth coming for the beer, but there are nicer places to drink in Knaresborough.
(Oct 2014 Review)
Slightly upmarket pub down back street, extremely handy for station. A long bar room on two levels is fairly plainly furnished, with a separate restaurant room to one side and a brasserie at a lower level beyond. Perhaps a bit lacking in character but worth visiting for the very impressive range of ales, mainly from Yorkshire (Cask Marque listed).

This Market Town Taverns pub is still handy for the station, getting several hours head start on the micropub on platform two. It's a handsome building and it looks really smart on the inside too, with what I would guess has been some refurbishing done during Covid lockdown. There are copper-topped tables and smart seating, and the dark green-painted bar counter has a foot rail and hooks, though no stools. There are two sets of three hand pumps, with one naked, another with Boltmaker turned round, and four beers: two from Roosters, one from Ilkley and Titanic Plum Porter. My half of Roosters Little Changes was in very good condition, although not really to my taste - it's got those American hops that only *some* people find garlicky. (It's notable that not only did I pay 35p less for a half here than at the Worlds End, but also that the price for a pint was £3.95 and the half rounded *down* to £1.95, whereas I suspect that my half for £2.30 at the other place was rounded *up* quite a bit.) I was going to rate this pub an 8, as service was friendly and the atmosphere congenial, but I noticed that the fern in a pot on the window sill was plastic, so a 7 it will have to be.
