Graham Coombs left this review about The Boar's Head

Old stone-built inn in tourist trap village with several rooms all set out for diners. If all occupied or reserved, for drinkers there is a group of stools along the bar, which is tucked round the back of the building, as well as outdoor tables. Decor is fairly smart modern, although not offering much character. This might be because the village went 'dry' in 1919 after the castle owner banned Sunday drinking and the local licensees all left in disgust; this pub did not reopen until 1990. 5 ales on though, with 3 from Theakston, Roosters Yorkshire Best and Ilkley Blonde. OK if you catch it at a quiet time but gets overwhelmed with tourists at busy times - in fact that's true for the village as well.

Stopped here for some food on the way to Fountains Abbey, having food in the bistro which was very good, plus a pint or two of the Black Sheep which was excellent

Old Boots left this review about Boars Head Hotel

Possibly the only pub in England with a Baronet's name over the door, the licence holder is Sir Thomas Ingilby, Bart, he lives in the castle next door to the hotel. The Boar's Head is the bar of a smart hotel in an elegant planned, or model village, halfway between Harrogate and Ripon. The bar is at the back of the hotel entered via the courtyard car park or through the Hotel reception. A long narrow room, the counter is down part of one side, the rest of the space is taken up with bistro style seating. Six hand pumps serving well kept Theakstons Best and Old Peculiar, Black Sheep Best and Golden Sheep, and Village White Boar. Range of kegs includes 1664, Becks Vier, Bulmers and Staropramen. The room is dominated at one end by Boris the Boar, there are some nice 18th and 19th century prints and caricatures, and some amusing cartoons of boars and hunting scenes drawn on the walls. Not the village local but a more than pleasant hotel bar.
