A prominent pub located right at the top of Dundry Hill, it is perhaps worryingly close to Hartcliffe and Withywood but nonetheless seems to be a decent establishment with a friendly couple running it. There is a good sized beer garden out the back with some distant views towards the Mendips, a couple of kid's play things and a small patio area

The main part of the pub is an L-shaped room and is quite traditional with whitewashed stone walls and a few old beams on the ceiling and church candles on all the tables. A couple of large stone fireplaces were off to the left although one looked to be just a log store rather than actually used. Flooring is predominantly carpet, and there were a few random pictures on the walls, but nothing of any particular note. A small snug area at the front of the pub had a flagstone floor and a couple of old leather sofas, whereas a larger room up a couple of steps is perhaps more intended for dining, although I did not investigate this.

The menu offered a decent selection of pub grub dishes such as fish & chips, sausage & mash, hunter’s chicken and so on, as well as a few steaks. There was also a small specials board next to the bar, and prices were somewhere around the £10 - £12 range. My “Oggy” from the specials board was a steak and ale pie with a puff pastry topping and was very good indeed, a generous portion and a rich thick sauce. Mrs B’s lasagne was similarly well received.

Beers on tap were Butcombe and White Witch Moorhouse, whilst a third pump appeared to have run out. Ciders meanwhile were a trio from Thatcher’s – Dry, Gold and Heritage.
