This large foodie pub is well worth a visit. The staff and locals are very friendly and chatty. Serves top-notch ales and is the sort of pub where you could settle down in for a good few hours. Also has a very good beer garden to the rear. Four ales on handpump, I went for the Adnams Bitter. Also has a ship's cat called Lucifer.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Ship
Firstly, a bit of a panic moment after a long walk as there are no handpumps in the small side bar (which is where many visitors will enter the building). However, there are four real ales in the larger front lounge facing the river, with a choice of Pride, Wherry and two from Adnams - Broadside and Bitter (£3.00) - plus some local 7.5% cider on gravity. Dining area and back dining room beyond. Waterfront beer garden crammed with furniture, umbrellas, marquee and smoking shelter, all of which which rather obscure the fine flower-covered principal facade. Having said that, it is a very pleasant spot for a pint (once one has found the beer!) watching the old swing bridge open and close for the passing boats and trains. (NB - Review dates from September 2012.)

Very nice pub, near the waters edge. Pretty garden, with lots of seating. Real ale on sale. Large range of whisky. Lots of miniatures hanging from the ceiling behind the bar.
