Blue Scrumpy left this review about The George & Dragon
The George & Dragon is situated on a busy A-road and bus routes. Yet, it was empty apart from a bored-looking barmaid on my Thursday lunchtime visit. I'm fairly confident I was the first customer of the day, despite this being a pub which serves food.
The pub has a large carpeted room with a dartboard, pool table and TV at one end. There are various pool and darts shields and trophies on one windowsill, suggesting the pub has a few successful teams. There is a large inglenook fireplace at the other end of the room.
Whether a chef was available to prepare a meal had I wanted one, I'm not sure. Although a specials menu was available. Each table had some plastic flowers on it, which felt like they were trying to attract diners. Wifi was available and a bingo night on the last Monday of every month was being promoted. Despite arriving to a pub in silence, music was switched on not long after I arrived, presumably for my benefit. There is a separate outbuilding to the rear, which appears to be in use as a function room.
Southwold Bitter is the regular cask ale here. Wherry was the guest, with Greene King Hazy Day, Wychwood Hobgoblin IPA & Adnams Ghost Ship the pick of the keg options. Ciders were Aspall's & Woodforde's Black Adder, the latter being one I haven't seen too often.
This pub felt very much like one on its way out, despite its fairly prominent location. I can't easily identify what is going wrong here, but it shouldn't really be empty on a Thursday lunchtime.
