This branch of Wetherspoon's enjoys quite a prominent location in the city centre. Located on a hill, it has entrances at different levels. I arrived to find quite a boisterous crowd at ground floor level. They had clearly had quite a few.
The ground floor bar is quite small. I retreated to the quieter and larger upper level (I eventually located the stairs to the left of the front entrance). The upper level itself is split-level, with the lower part also having an entrance/exit. Games machines abound.
With the Wetherspoon's festival in progress, there was quite a good selection of cask ales. However, the selections on the bar didn't quite match what was for sale on the app. From what I could see, there was Green Jack Orange Wheat, Terrapin Hey Pal, Harviestoun Vienna, Vale Chase The Sun, Shepherd Neame In The Nic of Time, Brew Moon Antipodean, Oakham Harmonia, St Austell Queen of Hearts, Brewster's Persephone & Mad Squirrel Beerhart. Ciders were Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon & Weston's Old Rosie.
I opted to have a spot of food, being tempted by some chicken I'd seen on the app. Neither the chicken nor my Chase The Sun were particularly memorable and as is often the case in cities with excellent pubs, this Wetherspoon's isn't really of too much value. It's cheap, you're guaranteed a reasonable beer selection, but it's a very fake drinking environment.

Old Boots left this review about The Bell Hotel (JD Wetherspoon)
A seemingly very small ‘spoons, about the size of an average pub. 5 pulls, 4 T-bars including 1 for wine. Lots of wood panelling and laminate flooring, there is a small piece of carpet surrounding a central island. This also houses the machines. Decorated with old photos of the city. Toilets to the left of the counter and not a full blown expedition away. There’s an almost entirely separate pub upstairs as well, a much larger area and split into a number of spaces. It has similar beers and tap layout to downstairs. Furnished with mostly high tables and stools in front and tables and chairs in the tucked away room at the side and in the seating well by the main door. Finding the toilets is a puzzle. It’s decorated with the more usual old photos and local history info boards. The front ground floor of the old hotel building is occupied by a Santander bank.
