A tidy walk from the city centre it’s a traditional village pub in an old village much extended and subsumed into Norwich. Two bars with a central servery and a drinking lobby in between, four pulls in the public bar to the left and three in the lounge, five beers are shared across the two bars. All are small and largely local. A T-bar no doubt services national keg drinkers. It retains an older ambiance in spite of some renovation. Red walls over dark wood decor, old board floors, Britannias, benches and stools in the public, cream walls in the lounge with sofas and armchairs plus a carpet . A classic village pub unspoiled by progress.

Still mask and table service, which seemed a bit much given it was hardly busy. Anyway, two rooms, a lounge to the left and a public bar to right via entry lobby. Remnants of interwar refurb still in evidence, the walled (oak?) wood seating and panelling were very nice. Four pumps all operational dispensing 2x Green Jack, Adnams and Boudicca Red Queen (NBSS 2, the first one out for a fair while). Nice enough if you live locally but based on what I experienced not really a bus rides effort. 6.5

This street corner local has bare boards and wood panelling in the main bar, with surprisingly deep sofas in the smaller lounge to the right. I counted seven ales available, with breweries such as Green Jack, Newby Wyke, Nethergate, Oakham and Dark Star represented. I had the Green Jack Ole Cock, an old ale, which I enjoyed. This excellent locals pub is definitely worth the walk out from the city centre (it took me less than 20 minutes from the Champion), and if it's your local I say "lucky you".
