After the Blackfriars Tavern’s governor found out I was on a pub crawl he directed me to the Red Herring, which turned out to be anything but. There’s a blue carpet throughout and on the left-hand wall is a wood panelled U-shaped serving counter that supports mainstream craft as well as seven hand pumps, six of which were in operation drawing three ales, Lacons Brewery’s Saint Nick’s and Encore alongside Round Corner Brewing’s Down the Road as well as three ciders, Weston’s Vintage alongside East Norfolk Cider’s Normal 4% Norfolk and Blueberry & Pomegranate. I went for a pint of the 5.2% Down the Road which was very good. Opposite the counter up the right is a long line of banquette seating and on the rear wall is a dartboard with a decent surround. A door to the left of the dartboard leads to a rear room with a pool table and a piano. I’m a big pool and darts fan and I love a drop of ale and cider, so this place was right up my street, although the other two customers who were playing darts did not have the same taste in music as me, so a few songs will have to be removed from the jukebox for me to give this pub a max score.

Rather bizarre quiet back street pub, tucked away and like being in somebodies front room. Some maps on the wall, ship pictures, granny's arm chairs, a pool table, all rather weird.

3 real ales, not local, but kept vey well hence a mark up to 6.
